Bugger!

Yesterday was set to be a busy but pleasant day. The plan: knock over a fair slab of the housework, duck into the city for Advent*jah tickets, then head up the river to go fishing for the afternoon. It all started out well, but then I stood up from cleaning a fish tank and ouchy! My bung knee decided it wasn't going to play, so after half an hour or so of trying to get it to feel better Alex rushed me down to the physio. Turns out it was nothing serious, just an inflamed bursa under my knee-cap, pulling things out of alignment. So half an hour and plenty of strapping tape later I was good to go. I was also fiendishly hungry, so we decided on brunch at Tognini's deli, conveniently just down-stairs from the physio in Milton :-) A shared breakfast of sourdough toast, poached eggs, baby spinach, smoked salmon, a potato cake and creme fraich made everything better, especially topped off with an excellent coffee and a complimentary pot of arctic fire tea (to which I have become addicted - in fact, I'm brewing some right now). I also splurged and bought some fantastic cheeses, so I'm probably cooking something evilly cheesy tonight =D

By the time we got home the morning was gone, so we shirked domestic duties and loaded up the car. First stop: Central Station Records for tickets, where I ended up purchasing the CafeDelMar - Energy52 box set for the cuddlesome one. Stopping via home to drop off the records, we headed west to Colleges crossing on the Brisbane river. It was lovely to be outside in a cool breeze, and even better to be wet and filthy with river *sigh*! Dip netting and bait trapping weren't too productive, so next outing I'll make sure I stop via work and pick up a seine net (providing continued employment anyway). Never-the-less, we caught a few fish, including assorted gudgeons, olive perchlets, mouth-almighty’s, the usual noxious gambusia, and much to my (displeased) surprise, some juvenile Tilapia - more recent noxious invaders. Luckily I also caught some Pacific Blue-Eyes, which (along with some hardyheads) were what I was after, although the majority of them just swam away from me, so I only got little tackers. Never mind, it was fun!

By now Alex was hyperglycaemic, and I was quite peckish myself, so we packed up and headed off (via a flying visit to Mount Crosby Weir - definately worth an upcoming photo mission) back in to town and stopped for ice-cream in Kenmore. Alex crashed once we were home, so he went off for a nap while I whipped up some pumpkin and spinach dhal *drool*. Woke the boy, ate dinner, spun the new records then off to bed, exhausted. Today Alex is working and I had a lovely sleep in. For some reason it's unusually quiet in the neighbourhood - no DIYers, lawnmowers, children, even the traffic is oddly calm - and very still to boot, not trace of yesterday's delicious breeze. A quick check of the big fish tank reveals half as many blue-eyes as yesterday and some rather fat looking tenants, accentuating the need to catch some adults rather than the tiddlers I bought home. Never mind, it was fun to play in the river and there are plenty more fish there for next time ;-)

Funniest sight of yesterday? A nutty black Labrador who liked nothing better than to swim out into the river, dive down to the bottom and swim back in with a newly collected rock in her mouth which she would them proudly present to her owner. There were about 15 biggish rocks on the bank and she was still after more! I've never seen a dog dive before. Anyway, somehow it's nearly gone half nine and I have a heap to do - house inspection on Tuesday, so I have to clean up a bit, plus clean the big fish tank and hopefully have a quiet evening to relax before tomorrow's nightmare (a 7 hr 'workshop' on a software system that isn't even up and running yet - bleugh) and a mad upcoming week in general. Adios!
