Skurfer - Currumbin Beach
Skurfing (sky-surfing, kite surfing) is starting to take off around here. Ideal for when the surf's not much chop (or too much chop, depending which way you look at it) but the wind is up, it's one hell of an adrenalin sport. Watching the effort the skurfers must go to to get their kites down once they hit the shore I admire their dilligence and question their sanity, though when they get going it does look like a hell of a lot of fun!

The southern end of Currumbin beach is home to the local surf club, nestled in the footholds of Elephant Rock. Almost every beach on the Gold Coast has it's own surf club, providing volunteer surf life savers during the tourist season and teaching the kids how to swim in the surf. Currumbin surf club (home of the Vickings) is much the same as the rest, with one important difference - located actually on the beach, rather than behind the dunes, the bottom level floods every king tide or severe storm. But don't worry - they're quite used to it by now ;-) Meanwhile, looking back to our skurfer braving the choppy swell we bid a fond farewell to last Sunday's outing to the beach.
