Stuff and other nonsense

Ok, so I'm LJing from work.

Had a very much needed 10 hour sleep last night, and as a result I'm feeling very relaxed today. Having difficulty getting into work mode, tinkering about with the tail end of the Project of Doom, getting everything up to scratch for submission. Writing a glossary is a surprisingly painful process! Polishing touches: fixing up the accompanying PowerPoint presentation, colour coding the flow chart. making sure all the appendices are fomatted properly and adding notes for the policy staff for any potentially contentious sections. Mixing in with that a smattering of administrative tasks that help clear the way.

Wednesday, hump day. Yesterday my project team attended a breakfast forum in the city on the new Wild Rivers legislation. Presentations were given by the Wilderness Society, the Tourism and Fishing industries and an independent science body (the Wentworth group). The material was excellent, but I was disappointed to see so few people from the environmental movement in attendance when it would have provided them with an excellent direction for engaging government and the community and influencing legislation. Only one ministerial advisor too :-(

The biggest disappointment of yesterday, however, was that I didn't take my camera! At a quarter to seven in the morning I found myself on a small terrace, twelve stories up, overlooking the Brisbane River on the foggiest morning I have ever experienced. The photo opportunities were amazing, with fog shrouded bridges and highrises interjected with reflected sunlight and the early bustle of city life. *sigh*

Life is plodding along as usual. The boy is at home today, sick with last week's cold. The upcoming weekend is a long one, with ANZAC day on Monday (lest we forget). A chance to hopefully get into the much-neglected garden - I didn't plant my pansies and violas last year (it all got too much) and I missed their cheery winter colour. Time to dig in the compost, weed, plant and mulch and rescue the few hardy survivors of a very dry summer and low-nutrient soils.

Next week is all systems go - I fly out to Cairns on Tuesday afternoon for 3 days in Mareeba, up on the tablelands, for another project workshop. Back to Cairns on the Firday evening to meet Alex at the airport - we nabbed cheap fares for him, seeing as I was already heading up, and delayed my return until the Sunday afternoon. So a weekend in the tropics awaits and decisions must be made as to reef, rainforest and/or tablelands destinations. Thus far we're planning on heading away from the tourists and up into the rainforest and small towns of the tablelands, though snorkling on the reef is a kind of magic I haven't experienced since I was seven. Mind you, we're considering doing the on-site dive course-slash-certification another time, when we can spend a week or two, so it may wait until then. Any which way, the camera should get a work out!

Lots of future talk at present, with the end of my contract in sight and no certain path for the year ahead. Alex must see about university options, I need to start applying for jobs and a wedding plan needs to emerge at some point! Weighing up what we want and what we can do, what will get us where we want to be. Realising that getting completely well and back up to speed is a very slow process, and although I'm well and happy again it will still be a while before I'm back up to a full life load. Meanwhile the little concessions are saviours, but I must remember to take into account that I'm only running on 3/4 speed and what I want to accomplish will require a lot more time than it would were I on top of it all. Still, I'm not looking back!

Work to be done, harness my day-dreamy mind and get more ticks on my page so I can free myself from the project at last! Adieu!
