Late to work today as I was up til 3am with my head in a book. That'll teach me for starting a Pratchett just before bed-time. So worked a short day then the boy and I went for coffee and bought some more fruit. I feel like a fruitbat lately, craving so much fruity goodness. Yum! Anyhoo, I'm about 6 LJ entries behind, as the last few months have been so busy. Let's see how I go at catching up!

Goodbye Brisbane

On November 30 I took a day off work and flew to Sydney for my Nanna's 95th birthday.

Hello Sydney

It's just over an hour's flight to Sydney, 1200km by road. My parents flew down too, but from the Gold Coast, and we met in the airport over choc-chip & pistachio cookies. This is also where I lost my phone =o( My uncle and aunt collected us from the airport and it was off to Montefurie to visit Nanna. Nanna lived close to my parenets until I was 14. Since then I'd only seen her once, in 2000. My Nanna was always a big woman, wearing thick glasses. She never showed to much interest in we grandkids, and spoke in a think Austrian accent. This time, only the accent was there. She's shrunk into a little bird of a woman and was absolutely delighted I was there (it was a birthday surprise).

After lunch my parents and I were dropped off in the city. Despite losing my phone, I'd been scheming all day using multiple phones, and had arranged to meet my good friend Adrian. I've known Adrian since we were 13 and don't see much of him since he moved to Sydney 7 years ago. Despite the distance, after a hesitant minute or two we fall back into rythm. So we walked towards Darling Harbour, where we arranged to meet Rui.

Forgive the bad lighting - handheld in the pub.

Rui, or [livejournal.com profile] ozbreaker, had never actually met, despite getting along famously online for a while. Nevertheless, we recognised each other instantly, and over a few beers we hit it off. Poor Adrian was a bit non-plussed though, looking a little left out as the conversation turned bluelight-ways. After sampling several fine varieties of James Squire, it was time to part. Adrian went home while I got a lift to the airprt with a man I'd just met. Confusion over departure times meant I was in an uneccessary hurry, but my flight was called through when I got there, due to the ridiculously large queue to check in. The ruimonkey kindly faced the hideous parking fees to come in and wait with me until it was time to board and head for home.
