Now I recall why I moved on, all the myriad reasons you're not such a part of my life anymore. I'm sorry old friend, but last night just served to remind me why I changed, why I left you behind...

Dear alcohol, it's so easy to lose myself in the moment with you, but you leave me feeling so cheated. You are too easy in your company and too hard on my wallet, and your memory leaves me with restless nights and sleazy mornings costing more than your temporary pleasure is worth.

Love me then leave me, ever the histrionic mistress of recklessness. Leave me with a bad taste in my mouth and a sensation of loss. Of what have you deprived me? Some liver function, perhaps, and a sharpness of wit and lift of mood whose absence weighs heavily on me today. Dulled and ugly from our interlude, you are not worth it.

I'm sorry, old friend, but I think it better this way. If by change we meet I shall still greet you warmly with a kiss, but gone are the days of entire evenings painted with your presence. The stars shine brighter without you.
