shapeofthings: (Work)
Having difficulty focussing this morning as yet again I went to bed far too late last night. It was already late enough, then the boy got ideas o_0 The weekend was pleasant - we really did very little. It rained from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon and although this made riding home on Friday a touch unpleasant it was a very good thing! All is tropical-green again instead of the dry, deathly brown to which we'd become accustomed. I'm quite keen to go for a drive up into the upper catchment to see how the river is looking - seems there's been a fair amount of rain up there too and last time I was there after rain it was spectacular!

Friday night was unpleasant, as an exhaused Toni dealt with a spasming neck muscle and all-over spine and muscle pain. Getting back on the bike plus my back playing up again plus a pilates lesson and my body was done in. Saturday I booked in for a massage: my physio was closed so I picked a random place out of the phonebook. Strangest massage ever! The guy didn't do standard massage; instead he did release point work and energy work. Although I'm familiar with both, I was quite taken aback to not have them used in conjunction with traditional massage, especially from an accredited sports massage place! Although it left me somewhat perplexed I must admit I felt a lot better afterwards, although I'm still having a few problems with my neck and shoulders. He's asked me to come back in a week and I'll give it a shot, especially as he gave me an extra half-hour for free. After that I'll make a decision on what I think of it all.

The rest of the weekend consisted of snoozing, a visit to the flower markets to buy some natives, a trip to the nursery for pots and a water lily and lots of eating take-away (tsk tsk). We really did just need some time to chill out and relax, even though it means I'll have to do the washing and clean the bathroom during the week. Last night Alex and I embarked on the mammoth task of giving the big fish tank a thorough clean. I potted up about half the tank plants, scrubbed algae off everything, cleaned the gravel and changed the water. I also nearly killed a bristlenose catfish that had jammed istelf into the log I was busily scrubbing in the kitchen sink :-0 Poor fish got scrubbed and scared, but this morning he was out and about again :-) Fish have been taking up much time and money of late, with my paradise fish spawning last week, resulting in 100 or so fry and the need to purchase and establish yet another fish tank. So far the fry are doing well (my 1st time rearing) so fingers crossed, although I'm not too sure where I'd fit 100 baby fish if they all make it to metamorphosis. Next weekend is time for the unenviable task of cleaning the big bio-filter - a rather grotty six-monthy affair. Hopefully my big tank will now stabilise enough to restock it fully instead of just the hardy survivors at present.

Still fighting the tail end of this virus, but definately on the mend. Today I tried a new cycle route to work - it is nearly twice as long, but the old route wasn't really improving my fitness, just making my muscles sore from struggling over a rather large hill every day. So now I'm skipping the Gailey 5-ways and heading along the river, right around the uni and past the golf course. Longer, but less traffic, pleasant views and more, smaller hills. I was decidedly less buggered when I got to work today. A boring, waffling entry today, but sometimes my life is actually pleasantly sedate. No photos as I've been unwilling to spend my weekend in front of the PC, however there are some more Port Arthur pictures here.
