P-bands

Lately, a few bands starting with P have really been grabbing my interest:
* Pony Up
* The Presets
* The Panda Band
* Peter, Bjorn & John

And in the world of Hip Hop, there's Lupe Fiasco's "Kick Push", which just makes me think of summer (I've never skated), along with Soul Position's "Hand Me Downs". And if you've never heard it, here's The Herd with a cover version of Redgum's "I was only 19" (live version featuring Redgum - recorded version is musically better but I can't find it).

Something that sprung to mind recently: my school guidance counsellor suggested I join the police force, as I like helping people and contributing to society. Poor Mr. Geitszel, you were not aware of my dis-respect for authority. Here's to the balance between social conscience and anarchy!

Also: Windows Geriatric. An operating system for the older generation. A very basic OS with idiot limiting. I *need* it now. before I have to fix both sets of parent's PCs again (oh wait, I already have to do the in-law's). "Windows Geriatric: it's as fast as you are."

Work is going well. Busy busy, and lots of over-time - usually an hour a day, though today I did 2. Lots of working out difficult equations and translating them for a lay audience. Using maths I haven't touched for eleven years. There's a great sense in satisfaction in working it out, though my brain hurts. Came home to a special bottle of red from the boy. A bit of a waste on Thursday night. I don't normally drink until (sometimes) Friday, but hey. Tonight my brain needed it's soothing ethynol bath.

I'm enjoying it though, the job. For once the week doesn't drag and I'm leaping out of bed in the morning. I'm making friends in the new office - they seem to like me for who I am - unlike the feelings of constant discomfort int he old one. The longer I'm in this job, the more I realise how fucked up the old one was. I am so much healthier. Speaking of longer, there's a good chance I'll be extended at end of contract, which I'm pretty happy about. Altough it makes Melbourne plans a little trickier, it's a job I'm loving, learning in, and gaining experience in an area I've been keen to break into, plus the pay is rather nice (even though none of it has hit my bank account yet). Certainly it won't go beyond December as the project (national) funding ceases. Plus we've got a state election to throw more uncertainly into the mix. I could handle stability until December though, with application writing on the weekend (starting this weekend for a job in Doncaster).

Anyway, it's past time for bed. I'll catch you later.
