he doesn’t know you’ve gone away
and it’s raining - raining in my heart...

Hullo there internets. How are you today?

How was your weekend? Mine felt like I'm stuck on repeat - busy trying to get things done on Saturday, then too exhausted to move much on Sunday. Again.

Saturday we tried once more to find a good produce market before giving up and rushing to Salamanca markets before they closed so we at least got some good veggies. I also managed to buy some bedside lamps (finally) and stop for a coffee and one of the two places we've found that can consistently make a decent short macchiato. Since one of these 2 places also makes truly wicked gluten-free cakes and is about 200m from my front door, I really can't complain (though my waistline might if I'm not careful). I also made some festive shortbreads on Saturday night. Sunday I barely got out of my pyjamas and was tucked back into bed by 7:45pm. Yeah, I've had enough of this virus.

What else? Oh yes, on Thursday night we had the great pleasure of an abusively drunk neighbour playing country, bluegrass and then Eastern European folk music at disturbing volume. I swear I've been to quieter raves. After a request to please turn it down as it was getting late only resulting in things getting louder, I gave up at 11:30pm and called the police. Welcome to the neighbourhood! *sigh* At least the cops were good about it and handled it well, and Mr. Grouchy has been ok since he sobered up, but not how we wanted to meet the neighbours, really. Plus I feel like the local wowser, yelling at the oldies to turn their racket down!

Anyway, I've been feeling a wee bit homesick of late, despite work continuing to be fantastic. I miss my friends, and I miss funny things, like going to the produce markets on Saturday mornings, and good gluten-free bread, kaffir limes, lychees and my herb garden (it's hot and humid in Brisbane now, with evening storms; our place would smell of vietnamese mint and thai basil. Mind you, the back yard would also be swarming with mosquitos, and I don't really miss 34oC humidity!). So I've been a bit down, but am looking forward to getting out and about a bit more over the upcoming break.

And although it's not my heart, the raindrops do look pretty on my poinsettia.
