May. 4th, 2009 06:50 pmIt's Monday night and I'm drinking. Yeah...
But let's not worry about the blah that's been Monday. Let's talk about my weekend.
Friday night I took the boy out for a surprise anniversary dinner. I'd secretly organised dinner at Lebrina, a fantastic little fine dining place just around the corner. It was fantastic: interesting and perfectly-executed food, very professional and warm staff and great atmosphere (small rooms with no more than 3 tables each in a 1836 cottage). Highlights of the night were my eggplant custard with buffolini, fresh tomato and oregano sauce (
Mike, you paying attention?) and a wonderful local chardonnay that was toasty, yeasty and rich. Not cheap, but perfect for a special occasion.
Saturday was a bit of a sleep in followed by a trip into town for food shopping and photography. Food-wise, first up was tea (Art of Tea, better than Tea2 in my opinion), followed by fresh eggs and some superb matured goat's cheese from the lovely folk at Bruny Island Cheese Co. We also stocked up on local organic garlic and fresh veg before fortifying ourselves with coffee and bratwurst (sans bread-roll) and heading down to Mures for fishy goodness. We made a final stop at Lark Distillery for some booze tasting and purchasing before heading home.
The evening? Sashimi and Skype calls to absent friends
The photography? See evidence attached.
Sunday began with coffee and cake with friends and somehow disappeared in a whirl of nothing much. I made some chicken stock and then a vat of mushroom risotto (served with shavings of the goat's cheese - delish!) and generally spent the day feeling happy and sleepy and in denial that Monday was not far away.
As weekends go, it was a damn fine one.
