Hello there.
I believe I mentioned that I bought some new lenses in my last post, but I don't think I mentioned how awesome they are. Anyway, they're absolutely freaking awesome indeed. I've been having lost of fun learning how to use them and seeing what they can do.
Yesterday we headed into town for a coffee and to pick up a few bits and pieces from Salamanca Market. I took the camera gear along just in case something caught my eye. Well it turned out I was in the mood to have a go at some street photography - something I haven't really done since I upgraded from my old Canon S1 with the sneaky viewfinder abilities. I know these aren't brilliant, but it's nice to have some more photographic options open to me!
This is Villino Espresso. The best coffee in Hobart in my not at all humble opinion. I'm passionate about good coffee, and these guys are super-passionate about making me good coffee. They also stock mini gluten-free carrot cakes of spicy goodness. If I worked in the city I'd spend way too much time here. Since I don't, I have to drag myself into the city before 2pm on a Saturday to enjoy the caffiene fantastic. A great place to be on a cold and grey winter's day.
These guys are regulars down at Salamanca Place, usually with a few mates joining in and keeping them company. They're actually pretty good musicians, playing their own compositions and having a whole lot of fun in the process. The buskers are one of the things I love about this part of town.
As you may have guessed, it's getting pretty chilly down here now. June wasn't all that cold, but July's making up for it, with overnight temps getting down to 1oC. I really, really wish we had a fireplace or a wood stove to curl up in front of, but all we have is a little oil heater we brought with us from Brisbane. We're using the oven to heat the house as often as possible, cooking up roasts, baking biscuits and even coming up with a way to do bangers and mash in the oven. Last night was a stove-top slow-cooked curry, which was delicious but did nothing to ward off the chill, so Alex baked a crumble to warm us up!
It's actually really nice to get to the office in the mornings and work in the warmth. I had to work from home for two days last week while I was still in radiation quarantine and discovered that it's awfully hard to type when you can barely feel your fingers! Work's in the sweet spot at present - I'm busy but not hectic, with enough diversity of work to keep me interested. Looking forward to picking up some project management stuff once the new projects are finalised. We're also hiring too - four new positions! I can't tell you how happy I'll be to not be the newest recruit anymore!
I'm hiding away inside today, attempting to ward off another round of lurgy by staying warm and doing very little. I could think of worse ways to spend a winter's Sunday. So what did your weekend entail?
