It gets better
Sep. 26th, 2010 11:53 amWhat is the It Gets Better Project? Started by Dan Savage, it's a video project designed to give hope to young GLBT people. As Dan says: If you're gay or lesbian or bi or trans, and you've ever read about a kid like Billy Lucas and thought, "Fuck, I wish I could've told him that it gets better," this is your chance. We can't help Billy, but there are lots of other Billys out there—other despairing LGBT kids who are being bullied and harassed, kids who don't think they have a future—and we can help them....
The idea of the Project is to get as many diverse voices out there as possible to let GLBT kids know that life gets better after high school. To encourage them to hang in there and make it through.
I think most of us, gay, straight or somewhere in-between, can relate, and wish we had someone to tell us it was going to get better when we were in school, being bullied for being too smart, too different, too ugly, for just not being the same as everyone else.
This seems like a really worthwhile project to me. If you have a story, please consider sharing it.
