A sad moment

See that beautiful big gum tree there? The one spreading its graceful branches up, over my roof, reaching out towards the moon? The one I look up at through my window when I lie in bed, watching the branches sway? The tree I love, that watches over my home?

Tomorrow it will be cut down. It is too big. Its roots are getting into the foundations. Its fallen leaves have clogged the drains. Its dropped twigs have dented the roof. If it drops a branch it would take out half the house.

I understand why it's going. It must. I'm still sad.
