Can you see the spider?

I've been on a bit of a down at work since Monday. Mostly feeling tired and flat after a weekend spent writing the application and doing far too many things. By Tuesday afternoon I was a grouchyfish and didn't really want anything to do with anything. That night we had a 2am thunderstorm, which sent the Callie-dog into a barking frenzy (she barks at anything in the sky. Hot air balloons, sky-writers and lighting). Her owners seemed to be able to sleep through the ruckus, though neighbour's lights were turning an annoyed shade of on. So Alex went over and got her and brought her inside and we sat up with her until the storm had passed, took her back home and went to bed.

Wednesday morning I woke up feeling like the world could go to hell, so I rang work and told them I'd be in late and went back to bed. Got up an hour later and spent a leisurely few hours catching up on LJ and reading a National Geographic over a pot of tea. Lovely. It was just the time out that I needed. After that I was feeling so refreshed and the weather was so beautiful that I brushed the cobwebs off my push-bike and rode to work. It was the first time I'd really ridden since the stack, so I took it easy and stopped along the river (at the Tarcoola track) for a drink. Looking up, I noticed a Brahminy kite flying past with a twig in its beak! Watching it circling above, it came closer and closer until it was crashing through the eucalypts to land on an inner branch. I felt so privileged to watch it building a nest!

I decided I wasn't feeling energetic anymore, so instead of riding my bike up the hills to work I walked it along the track. Probably not less effort int he long run, as I had to carry it up and down stairs, but a different kind of effort, so all was well. The track was lovely - bird-calls, insects and lots of flowers after the rain, so I decided I had to bring my camera in and walk it again.

Today I woke up tired, headachey and late. Remembered the camera but wasn't feeling up to anything when I got to work. Procrastinated the morning away for a couple of hours then decided I coulnd't deal with it any more. I grabbed the camera and headed out to the river. Of course, yesterday's perfect light was gone, but there was still plenty to examine along the walk. I found some interesting seeds and smelt the flowers. I met a curious young dragon and some very strange bugs. I did not, however, soo the Brahminy's. I couldn't even spy the workings of a nest, though it's so very high up I can't be sure. I'll have to go back in a few days to see if they are still there.

By the time I got back to the office, sweaty and dishevelled, I was in a much happier mood. My headache had dissipated and I felt much more able to cope with the place. Got a few hours of work in and a productive chat regarding a project. By the time Alex came to get me at a little past five, I had a medical need for coffee and cake, so we found ourselves down at Park Road. A short macchiato and slice of hummingbird cake later I was quite rejuvinated and we turned for home. Made up a vast pot of salsa in preparation for tomorrow-night's dinner: beer and nachos for eight. When I get home tomorrow I'll make the bean paste and guac, then it's all good to go. The weekend, it approacheth.
