Aug. 4th, 2004 12:35 pm12:30pm and I'm impoatiently waitng for the rice-cooker here at work to do its thing as I'm hungry. What a frustrating morning! Got to work a little on the late side (10am) and barely got time to check my emails before heading into meetings. "Team of Teams" urgh - what planet do social scientists live on? A pair of clueless beurocrats telling us that according to this social study paper our organisation should run in this way. This would be great if they were comparing us to other science intitutions, but no, they want us to work to the same models as a metal recylcers or a fast food company. *smacks forehead* Anyway, not to worry as there's nothing I can really do about it anyway.
Late this morning and still desperately behind with my work...
dabutton came around last night for a make-your-own style dinner and to enjoy our fabulous company ;-) Anyway, a bottle of Cab Sav and a bottle of Shiraz later it was a very late evening indeed! Packed the cuddlesome one of to bed a little after 10 and got Button cabbed away a little after 11 before tumbling into bed. after 10 minutes of lying there I realised I'd best get up again, because the only bed-based activity I had any interest in wasn't sleeping and the boy needed to sleep as he gets up at 5am. So I got up and chatted online to
new_brunette,
scooby_au and
jeanzc until the sugar high wore off. Finally got to sleep around 1am and spent the next couple of hours drifting in and out of consciousness as a gale came up and buffetted the building (living on top of a hill does have it's down side). At 3:30am I woke up enough to get up and close the windows and got some decent sleep, even after Alex rose. Lay in bed for a while listening to the wind and hoping it would ease so I could cycle into work, before realising that wasn't going to happen and organising a taxi ride to work yet again *sigh*.
Still blowing a gale out, though it is seasonal. August is always marked by strong westerly winds, though I'm surpirsed they have arrived seeing as nature decided to give winter a miss this year. I remembered my CDs today (including a lovely new Shostakovich) so I have a broad selections of tunes to keep me sane. Now I'm off for lunch before finally beginning real work for the day.
Hasta cuando!
