Not happy Jan...
Aug. 16th, 2004 02:48 pmSo I'm at work, I'm upset and I finally figured out why my work attitude has been so poor regarding this new project. The shit has piled up and it's really starting to stink.
This is a short-term project. I got made project leader for it - told that this was just to share the meeting comittments around - so I'm ultimately responsible for it. Now, I'm in an entry level position with only 6 months job experience and none in the area this project fits into. Ok, I can do this - consider it a chance to shine and really show my capabilities. Ummm... The remainder of my project team (being my supervisor and a co-worker) have fucked off together on 3 weeks holiday (yep, that's right, she's screwing our supervisor). The project is due a couple of weeks after they get back and I'm expected to do all the leg-work and get most of it done while they are away. Do-able with a bit of guidance, right?
Well, half an hour before he left for holidays my supervisor scratched out a loose framework on paper and asked me to type it up and send it off to the relevant policy officer for comment and to get the thing okayed. I did this a week ago and have still not heard back. I don't know how to do half the things in the framework and have no-one to ask for support. Before my supervisor left he also asked me to go through a list of associated government policies and identify those related to the task at hand. I made up a list and emailed it over to policy for comment. Now the boss in policy is yelling at me for doing something he considers irrelevant, and because I am project leader I am responsible, even though I just did what I was told. Gah!
And just to put things into perspective, I'm about 5 rungs on the ladder below the correct staff ranking to be a project leader. So I've wasted a week procrastinsting and waiting for people to get back to me (which they mostly have at last) because i'm not confident that I know what I'm doing (really, I don't have a clue), and now have 2 weeks left to cobble this thing together still with very little clue how to do it. I'm expected to do 2 people's work with no experience and minimal guidance. I do like a challenge, but this is getting ridiculous! I don't know whether to yell or to cry.
