So yes, yesterday I finished up at work pretty early and was on my pushbike riding home when a thought occured: "it's early yet, and there's no need to rush straight home. Why don't you dash over to Indooroopilly and get a quote on all the camera stuff you want." Possibly a foolish thought, but I did it anyway. I found all the bits I wanted, got prices, got a cash discount and then was faced with the big decision: buy now or come back another time? Well, it came down to realising the price wasn't going to change and the sooner I buy it, the sooner I realise I'm poor, so the more incentive I'll have to save up money again for the Melbourne trip (I find it very hard to save once I have a reasonable amount of money in my bank account). So with a little assistance from Alex, I bought the whole kit and caboodle then and there (except the adaptor for the polarising filter, which they need to order in), plus got an extended warranty on the camera, just to be on the safe side.

Had a bit of a play with it last night - I have an awful lot to learn about the manual settings, but it's very nice to see what the selected settings do straight away! I'm also quite happy with the white balance so far and have sussed out most of the features. I need to figure out how to get it in macro mode yet, which I'm looking forward to playing with. The shop also gave me 150 free prints too, so I'll get some of my better work printed out. I decided to be good and leave it at home today so I'd actually get some work done, but so far no work and I saw so many photos just waiting to be taken when I went outside. *sigh* Still nervous about carrying something so expensive around with me. I can only imagine what I'm going to be like when I get my car on the road! o_O

So yes, Wednesday. Three more days of peaceful working before my supervisor gets back and fills my workspace with his loud phone calls, constant chatter and scatterbrained ideas. Best enjoy the tranquility while it lasts then :-/ Lots to do, moderately motivated to do it. Have realised that getting to work at ungodly hours is useless as my brain won't function before 8am and functions best after 10am, no matter what time I get up. My back is shitting me - the intercostal muscles are tight and twingy. It's only discomfort, but it's annoying, especially as it's been over a month since the injury. Being active maeks it worse, but sitting around being a lard-arse was making me depressed, so I'll live.

Other events: I finally bought a new pair of jeans the other week after 3 years of looking for new blue jeans (not muffin pants or mumblers) and patching the old pair. Three days later the old pair ripped completely. Alex needs glasses for distance vision, as suspected. Met [livejournal.com profile] ifr and [livejournal.com profile] shanston for dinner and had a ball, even if we damn near killed them (chilli poisoning and magical opening car doors). My car is still not fixed >:-( and I have no estimated time for when it will be on the road (I bought a wreck from an insurance auction) and some arsehole stole my pot of strawberries from out the front of my place, just as they were coming into fruit. Mix of good and bad, life goes on. Now off to get some work done...
