Wednesday and I'm at home, still in my PJs while Alex potters about making pancakes. I've taken the day (or at least the morning, depending on my guilt levels) off to recover from last night. We went out. Oh baby did we go out!

Scooting out of work a little early, Alex and I headed in to Fortitude Valley to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] dabutton, Rob and Lou, our partners in weeknight festivities. First stop was dinner at the Tibetan Kitchen. Good company makes good food all the better and soon we were all full of Sherpa goodness. Mission "food" accomplished, we proceeded with the main agenda of the night: a good old fashioned rock concert o_O

Those who know me well may be surprised. Those who know me really well will not be. Most of my nights spent dancing away tend to be at raves these days, and I do like a bit of good electronica, but I'm also partial to a spot of indie rock and have been for many, many years. I have a background in classical music, so as long as the sound is musically good I'll generally be in it. Anything from 16th century orchestral to ska to jazz to jungle. Raves dominate my musical exploits simply for the unique atmosphere, value for money and complete lack of aggro, and I hadn't been out to see a live band in a very long time.

Last night remedied that: we trooped off to the Zoo to see three great Australiasian bands, the up-and-coming Ground Control from Melbourne, New Zealand's very fun GoodShirt, and long-time liked Aussie rockers Spiderbait! A bloody good time was had by all :-D

Although tickets sold out the venue wasn't too crowded. I had plenty of dancing room for the warm-up bands and a little bop spot for Spiderbait. Danced my arse off too, ending the night a damp, sore, sweaty, exhausted but happy little fish. My voice is recovering nicely from screaming along to the lyrics and my gammy knee has stopped complaining about all the jumping around I did. I'm contemplating going in to work for the afternoon, but the guilt is in tough competition with Alex being home (especially as he was working all weekend). The night was brilliant, with good tunes old and new and a surprisingly warm and fuzzy crowd.

A rock gig with plenty of alcohol for consumption sounds like a recipie for aggro and harassment, but everyone conducted themsleves admirably - so many happy, smiling faces and everyone moving through the crowd politley and considerately. I was very impressed. Short little me did not get crowded out and managed to actually see the band. Big ups to the Zoo crew for a tererific venue and great ambiance. Live music is fun :-)

Spiderbait, "you're fucking awesome"!
