Mar. 21st, 2005 02:53 pmI went for a wander after lunch, down by the river. Red-backed fairy-wrens hopped and tremor’d amid the grasses, heads risen to peer at the passer-by turned to peer at them in return. Charmed by red-vested, formal-dressed twittering boy dashing and his softly-fluffed tail-up girls. Whistle-twit gone! Over the foot-bridge a-watching the water, the toadfish paddle in their cartoonish way. Amble along with the butterflies up to a suitable perch. Stop and look up at the gum trees swaying, leaves all a flutter in autumnal breeze. Follow the brahminies, out over the river, hawk-eyed precision on red-and-white wing. Look up til it feels it is not clouds, but you that is sliding, falling, dreaming.
