Why yes, I am odd, why do you ask?
Jun. 15th, 2005 09:52 amI’m wearing my sunglasses in the office. Head cold + fluorescent lighting = blurry vision and sore eyes. I think I’m actually going to have to get my eyes tested =( I’m noticing my close vision ain’t what it used to be since I’ve been working here (fluoro lights and LCD screen seems to be a bad combo, though it could just be the spending more and more time on the computer).
Speaking of such things, I’m trying my best to spend less time in front of the PC and more time getting back to my other hobbies and interests. This heavy computer usage started when I first hit Depressionville early last year when Alex was away. I started to spend my nights online for the company – a habit that has persisted, even though the boy has been back home for a year. I’m finding I don’t really enjoy it anymore – I’m bored and under stimulated and my attention span has shrunk alarmingly, but I still do it, because it’s become habit and it’s the path of least resistance.
So I’m putting in serious effort to get away – reading books, cooking exotic meals, going running (well, once my foot get better), meeting friends for coffee and just generally getting more involved in real life again. I quit Bluelight as a symbolic move to myself, a forced closing of this chapter of my life. I thought about an LJ hiatus but then got real – I’d miss you lot way too much and lack to willpower to not check in every day or two. Funnily though, I no longer miss my online life when I’m away with work, although I used to. *shrugs* I guess I really do need a change!
Pseudoephedrine is my friend today, as what I thought was hayfever yesterday proved to be the cold that’s been going around the office. Blocked sinuses lead to a slight dizziness that is pleasantly spacey once the sniffles have been driven away. I died last night, going to bed at 5pm when I could no longer keep my eyes open, and not rising again until the alarm went off at 6 this morning. Not a particularly deep sleep, but blissfully long. I think I’ll try for a repeat tonight!
Actually, I lie; I did get up at one point. At half past 2 in the morning when it started pelting with rain I got up to close the windows. Rain! Hooray! A good drenching too as it’s been drizzling lightly all morning. Nearly 10mm so far, which will do a world of good, though even better they’ve had over 30mm out west, which (provided it’s not followed by frosts) will answer farmer’s prayers for follow up rain for the winter plantings. (Not to get into a rant about farming practises – that awaits another day.)
