Life has been surprisingly busy of late. So I'm going to start from Friday...

Last Friday Alex was still off work, fighting the dying strains of the snotty hell bug. I'd arranged to meet the deligtful [livejournal.com profile] geheimzinnig for a post-work coffee at Park Road. Coffee turned into a take-away dinner and conversation at ours until midnight - totally unexpected but a wonderful evening. Saturday we slept late, had French toast for brunch and got on with the housework. In the afternoon a phone call to Alex's parents resulted in us jumping in the ute and driving down to theirs in time for dinner. We stayed the night and most of Sunday, arriving home again around 9pm after a lovely day and a walk along the beach.

Monday Alex was back at work. I slept late and was breakfasting at 10am, still in my pyjamas, when the phone rang. They offered me the job, and I took it. Half an hour later I had procured tickets to see the Dresden Dolls on September 9. Woohoo! Much jumping around the house ensued. On Tuesday I got up and went to work. I managed to get myself up, dressed, fed and out of the house by 8am, all set for the 8:12am bus which must have decided it would be a nice day to be early too. A 40 minute wait at the bus stop was made more pleasant by listening to my mp3 player and writing a letter (boy am I glad I've started carrying a note-book with me again).

My first day on the job went really well. Incomparable to my first day at my last job! In fact, the whole day really helped hit home exactly how screwed up my former workplace is, even though i'm still working in the same branch of the Dapartment. It's so nice to work in a friendly, positive environment! It's nice to have a boss who isn't slacking off at every available opportunity or sleazing into my personal space! It's also nice to work in a quiet office instead of said boss sitting next to me and yelling on his phone or having impromptu meetings at his desk every 10 minutes. Hooray! It was such a peasant experience!

So I'll be there for 5 weeks, perhaps a little longer. The work actually seems ok - not too easy, but not beyond me either, and certainly equivalent to a lot of the work I was doing previously for a lot less pay. Fantastic. (I seem to be saying "fantastic" an awful lot recently. Ever since I watched last year's series of Doctor Who on DVD.) Speaking of Doctor Who, nothing brings a smile to the face like working away listening to music and suddenly having the Doctor Who theme song come on. =o) Alex picked me up from work and we came home and had coffee before I announced he was taking me out to celebrate my new job.

I chose to go to the local nice Italian place, La Dolce Vita, our haunt on Park Road. It's a fantastic restaurant and cafe with the most hideous wog-shui decor. Fantastic wanker watching, hilarous staff and good food at reasonable prices. No wonder we spend so much time there. As we were getting ready to leave, there was a knock on the door. Our friend Webby had stopped in on his way down to the Gold Coast. Webby is a limousine driver and a mutual friend from way, way back. He'd had a fare to take up to Brisbane and had half an hour to spare before heading back down the coast. Normally he'd stay for a coffee and a chat before heading on his way, but we had somewhere to be. Of course, he offered to drive us down in his car, so off we went in a newly restored stetch limo, tinted windows, blue, flashing interior light-show, and home-made tunes from a local DJ (Sven, aka DJ Hiro) on the stereo. Syle! When we pulled up in front of the restaurtant, people's eyes were almost popping out of their heads! It must have been something, especially as we were both dressed in raver-ish clothes. =oD

Dinner was lovely, accompanied by a lovely '03 shiraz we'd brought along. When we could both barely move we downed short blacks and walked home. I got a foot massage after walking home in heeled boots (oh so sexy), score!

Today was a public holiday in Brisbane for the Ekka. (I'm sitting at home and getting paid!) We both slept for almost 11 hours (neither of us slept much the night before, largely due to my new job nerves), had a lazy breakfast then got back into the house work. I finally finished cleaning up the balcony properly: what used to be a monthly job had not been done for at least a year. I feel very accomplished now. I'm drinking beer (Boag's draught) and being generally lazy, having decided to get a cheap dinner from our local Thai place because cleaning up the kitchen to cook is too hard right now. Back to work in the morning. I'm planning to investigate the merits of taking the train to Indooroopilly and walking the half-hour to work instead of relying on the unreliable bus.

Suddenly life ended up back to normal, at least for the next 5 weeks.
