A couple of weeks ago the lovely [livejournal.com profile] keirf named a colour for me to list 10 things I like in that colour. So here we go - 10 lovely things pertaining to purple:

A-mask2

1. My wedding, which was very purple! I wore a purple rough silk dress and the boy had matching purple cuffs & collar on his shirt. Purple is actually the boy's favourite colour, hence our choice of wedding attire. It's now one of my favourite colours because purple always makes me think of him.

2. Eggplant, or aubergine as most non-australians call them. Eggplant is pretty much my favourite vegetable and I'm very pleased I've been able to keep eating it throughout my digestive tribulations. It's delicious grilled or stir-fried, but is particularly magnificent when deep fried, preferably as tempura. It's also so very pretty, with it's glossy dark purple skin. Yum!

3. Vanda rothschildiana is one of my favourite flowers. My dad grows orchids and has had a huge purple vanda for as long as I can remember and I always loved it. We were going to have Dad's vanda flowers for our wedding corsages, but sadly the snails got to the buds while we was away, so we had cattleya corsages instead.

4. Purple taro (ube)! Whist tasy as a tuber, I particularly like purple taro-base sweets. Steamed buns, glutinous rice cakes and even icecream are all teriffic with taro.

5. The evening sky just before night-fall, when everything turns indigo-purple and the edges of the world soften and slip into shadow.

6. My collection of purple accessories: knit half-gloves, leather choker, scarf & new mobile phone

7. Purple-spotted gudgeons (Mogurnda adspersa), one of the fish native to Brisbane that got me interested in studying native fish. Lovely fish, but you can only keep them with tank-mates that are bigger than these large-mouthed greedy-gutses.

8. Thunderstorms, with their purple-black clouds and purple-edged lighning. The smell of ozone is purple in my synethsasiatic imaginings.

9. Purple garlic. Food of the Gods.

10. The Freakangels, from Warren Ellis's excellent comic, with their purple eyes and purple freaky powers.

Purple also reminds me of chocolate, probably because it's the colour of Cadburys (even though I don't like their chocolate) and Thai food, since it's the colour of the Thai royal family and is commonly used in Thai restaurants. I like purple flowers in general, especially irises and chives. I have been trying, with limited success, to dye my hair purple since the beginning of this year. I've tried 6 different colours now, and the only one that actually turned out a true purple and not a variant of burgundy turned out to now be permanent and stained everything blue. I would like purple hair though...

Anyway, if you fancy a colour, shout out in the comments and I'll tell you what colour I most associate with you.

xoxo
