Quite a fabulouslittle slipper orchid
Somewhere on the road between Mossman and Daintree Village lies a little orchard farm with gardens open to the public. Having been thwarted in our plans to cruise the Daintree River (damn tour group bookings!) we decided a stroll through the gardens might be just the thing. My father is a keen orchard grower and I'm quite fond of them myself, so we took our umbrella and went a-traipsing about the Cattelayas and Oncidiums.

These green ants came a-charging when we brushed passed their leafy home. I'm told the ants are edible, with a pleasant lemony tang, though I'm yet to give them a try. They'll at least give you a hearty nip on the way down!

Now I'm cheeting. This wonderful vanda caught my eye at a little produce market in the town of Mossman, Lucky it did catch my eye, as it's owner was also selling rather scrumptious rambutans for $5 a kilo! On the rare occasion I find rambutans here they're well over twice that amount and nowhere near as nice. They were the perfect breakfast the next morning.
