Ok, it's cold now. Six degrees celcius tonight, which for we sub-tropica folk is damn cold. Bearing in mind we live in houses without double glazing, thick curtains or heating. We own a heater - it's a little fan jobby that struggles to keep the bathroom warm on windy nights. And tonight is windy. Crystal clear, cold and windy. But it was an ill-planned planting, too close to fence lines and awnings and it's caretaker, my neighbour, cut it down. I miss the tree - our place was near-surrounded by interweaving branches and now there's a gaping hole. With the tree gone the city lights are brighter, twinkling through the branches of the leopard tree still remaining (a weed I wish he'd cut down instead). The neon sign of the brewery at Milton blinks at me relentlessly...
