Ok, it's cold now. Six degrees celcius tonight, which for we sub-tropica folk is damn cold. Bearing in mind we live in houses without double glazing, thick curtains or heating. We own a heater - it's a little fan jobby that struggles to keep the bathroom warm on windy nights. And tonight is windy. Crystal clear, cold and windy. The city lights are sharp and clear from my balcony. Until last weekend a beautiful native quandong tree spread it's branches before the balcony. we could reach out and touch it's leathery leaves. But it was an ill-planned planting, too close to fence lines and awnings and it's caretaker, my neighbour, cut it down. I miss the tree - our place was near-surrounded by interweaving branches and now there's a gaping hole. With the tree gone the city lights are brighter, twinkling through the branches of the leopard tree still remaining (a weed I wish he'd cut down instead). The neon sign of the brewery at Milton blinks at me relentlessly...
