So, it's been a while.

We extended the trip by 2 weeks, which means we arrive on May 4th and leave on June 15th. We're overnighting in Singapore to catch up with [livejournal.com profile] drspleen. So. Very. Close!

Carolune, Ongar: we're free from ~ May 21 to May 27 (or longer if we skip the beer festival), then the 29th/30th to June 12th/13th.

Jen: May 15 to 21st we're all yours. Longer if you want. =o)

I've got five-and-a-bit weeks paid leave out of eight. And I'm off work now until June 19th, after which I'll hand in my resignation and finish two weeks later. By July 1st I'll be free! Yay yay yay yay!

It's all systems go. Wheee!

I've been away for a few days. Can you guess where?

This is my father's country. It runs through his blood and gently whispers to me on cold, windy nights. I remember him pointing the Laterns out to me, down the very end, almost 20 yearsago. This time, driving Alex along my memories, it all seemed much smaller than memory. Like my father, his once terrifying temper these days seems like a childish tantrum and I'm no longer so afraid of him. The big man with the hitting hands used to feel bigger than 5'2". These days his rounded form is more comical than threatening.

Despite our turbulent relationship, there's a kinship with my father that I don't share with mum. Inherited memory of the trees and mountains and a familiarity with this place. He taught me how to read the weather, called me out of bed to watch a spider spinning web under the moon. In his big garden I had my little place and each year a packet of seeds. Still, he'll always remain distant, locked up in parts with his own strange demons far beyond my reach. All I can do is go walking through his memory and find what peace I can.

Late to work today as I was up til 3am with my head in a book. That'll teach me for starting a Pratchett just before bed-time. So worked a short day then the boy and I went for coffee and bought some more fruit. I feel like a fruitbat lately, craving so much fruity goodness. Yum! Anyhoo, I'm about 6 LJ entries behind, as the last few months have been so busy. Let's see how I go at catching up!
