Oh yes, MONA FOMA is back again this summer! Sadly it's not free this year, but I'm happy to shell out money for this roller coaster ride through the artistic fringes.

Bring it on!

On Nudity

Nude, naked, starkers, completely undressed! So yes, I posted my right breast in the internet. So what? So what indeed. Our modern society has interesting hang-ups when it comes to nakedness. We're all ashamed of our bodies, we all equate nakedness with desirability. Nudity relates to sex so clearly; except it doesn't. I'm not especially fond of my body, and I most certainly don't think I'm hot to trot. But it's still my body, and I'm not ashamed of it. It's so like my mother's, which I saw many times growing up. Whilst my parents aren't exactly nudists, if mum had got out of bed to scold me to get into mine in the summer, she was naked. I saw her when I she didn't close the bathroom door, and when she asked me to check the cysts on her back.

Naked is fundamentally human. The complete picture of who we are, rather than who we'd like to be. Naked is aesthetically pleasing, even in entirely non-sexual contexts. But what is sexual and what isn't? To me, none of the self portraits I've posted here are at all sexual in their nature. The most recent was an eploration in form. The first was an expression of vulnerability, of humanity, far removed from anatomical perfection. They're photos to communicate ideas, or to please aesthetically, with no intention to tittilate or boast. But not everyone views nudity the same way. How do you?
