Vows1

This was supposed to be a beautiful long post about our friends drspleenH & P, telling all about how we met and how wonderful the two of them are. Unfortunately, my computer blue-screened half-way through writing it, so you're going to get the very condensed version instead...

A Flowers

On Friday, 08.08.08, our wonderful friends [livejournal.com profile] drspleen and the LSG (now LSW) got married. We had the joy of attending their wedding to celebrate with them. It was a perfect day, and we couldn't be happier for them, fantastic people that they are.

Although I was an ordinary guest for the day, I did sneak in a few photos, though I must admit, weddings are much more fun when you're not working! For a few more shots of my beautiful friends, please take a peek behind the cut )

Yesterday I felt like crap and had a raging headache. I left work early (I wasn't doing any anyway) and went to the dress-maker's, but the shop was closed, so I had a coffee and biscotto (hazelnut chocolate - yummo) and bummed around for a bit. I'd made a physio appointment for 6 and was just waiting for the clock to get there. Physio was just what I needed, as Luke got rid of my headache quick-smart. Back again next week for a going over and a massage. Mmm.

After that, Alex picked me up, drove me home, then he went into the city to get our tickets to the Mayhem Easter Music Festival (it's a rave). I stayed home feeling sorry for myself and did very little. I'd developed a runny nose, and was genenrally feeling pretty blah. Couldn't get to sleep for the drip and finally crashed out around 12:30, a tired fishie.

Woke up still feeling crap, so I went back to sleep. Got up at 9:30 - so much for getting an early start to today. Alex was feeling pretty blah too, so we took it easy before missioning out to Chermside to run an errand. Oh dear! Westfield Shopping town Chermside is a massive, massive place with no-where near enough car parks and plenty of customers. It was huge! A giant temple to consumerism. So we got out of there as quickly as we could! Headed back to see the dress-maker, but again the shop was closed so we came home.

Alex crashed out not long after, but I finally started to feel better and decided to make [livejournal.com profile] nalsa's marmalade cake, as I'd been given some home-made grapefruit marmalade back in December, and the donors needed the dish it was in back. Made the cake and licked the bowl clean (the mix was deeeeelicios Mike!), then decided to make biscuits while the oven was hot. I ended up settling on Greek shortbreads, and got started on that, but had to leave some oiled butter to set, so decided to do something about dinner. There was a tray of flat mushrooms in the frigde so I decided to make mushie risotto. It wasn't until I'd chopped the lot that I remembered we're out of aborio rice, so I had to think quick...

Mushroom crepes! I know Alex is a big fan of his dad's mushroom crepes, so I decided to try my hand at making them, smiley-style. While the mushies were simmering I made up some crepe batter and threw in some torn Greek basil and parmesan, just a bit of an experiment. Then I remembered about the cake in the oven (not done yet) and the shortbread. Added some lime rind and almond meal to the shortbread mix and went about the rest of it while the mushroom mix simmered. In a rare feat of good timing, the cake was done just in time to get the shortbreads in, and the shortbread went in just in time to make the crepes for dinner, which were done just as the mushroom sauce had finally reduced enough, and Alex woke up when the shortbread went in. Hooray! Now why can't that happen more often?

The crepes turned out really nicely, though there was a mysterious bit of hard plastic in the sauce (I'm talking about 2mm), and I have nfi how it got there. Alex polished the last of the sauce off on toast and I sampled the shortbread (needed a few minutes more, but is rather yum). So it's been a very productive night, with an invenged-on-the-spot dinner that turned out perfectally, and baked goodies ready to stow away. Not exactly what the plan for Saturday night was yesterday! We were having a few friends over for dinner, but after feeling so blegh this morning we cancelled. I'm sure my immune system (and liver) will thank me. Tomorrow will be a thrilling day of doing the housework and getting over this bug properly. Moday is an unpleasant thought that I'm about to drive away with another shortbread, or maybe a peice of the cake!

Happy weekend!

Edit: I settled for both. nalsaMike thank you for the cake recipie - it's fantastic! Divine, I tell you!
