After a week of actually having designated work to do I'm back to floating, which is frustrating me more than usual as I'm really in the mood to work. I think I may start on that conference paper for the remainder of the day/week as nothing else appears to be forthcoming. I really enjoy my job when I have challenging work to do: I don't mind being given something out of my experience and seeing what I can do, and I really need minimal direction - just an idea of an outcome and a time line and I'm set. So instead of getting out of sorts over it, I'm going to work on my own stuff and I'm keeping an eye out for alternatives. There's an excellent job coming up in an area that really interests me that I will be applying for. The only draw-back is the vacancy is in Mackay, but we'll cross that bridge if we come to it. At the least it will give me some more application writing/interview experience, which I will need even if I do stay here, because I'll have to reapply for this job when my contact runs out in December.

In 15 minutes Alex will be attending a second interview for that lab-tech position. Not the kind of job one normally expects a second interview for, but hey! Although the pay will be less, the hours are fantastic and it's practical experience for his degree as well as a potential foot in the door for post-degree employment. Still, not the end of the world if he doesn't get it as he's already working and bringing decent money in.

I realised recently that I had stumbled into one hell of a rut. I had stopped doing many of the things that made life enjoyable. My world consisted of work dissatisfaction, housework, sitting on the internet and not much else. Somehow I gave up active participation in life. Getting enthused about photography has helped get me out of it, as well as sitting down and planning with Alex. Lets hope I keep up the motivation because there's so much I'd like to achieve.

In further news I completely ballsed my driving lesson yesterday. This whole clutch business it totally foreign to my automatic habits. So I smoked the clutch doing a hill start turning into traffic and stalled in the middle of a busy main road. Go me! The gods help you all when I actually get my car on the road! And now it's Wednesday already and another unseasonally warm, sunny day. Alex is working Saturday to make up for time off for interviews etc., so I'm planning on working on my paper. *prays for focus and will power* Plans to catch up with Brett and Ailsa at some point are currently loose but hopefully will eventuate. Other than that, it's looking a rather uneventful but busy weekend. With luck I'll get home tonight to find the plumber has actually fixed all the dripping taps in my flat and by some miracle has decreed my hot water system the absolute shiite it is and informed the Real Estate it needs replacing.*crosses fingers* What I'd give for reliable, really hot water!

Chin up!
